About

Hello, my name is Rene Valenzuela. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. Several years ago, I serendipitously came upon the world of Business Intelligence and began a training program with Colaberry, my current company. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to work in the field with Colaberry. During my tenure at Colaberry, I’ve received comprehensive training and valuable opportunities to learn and advance my career. I’m well-versed in SDLC methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile practices and sub-methodologies.

In my most recent project, I was tasked with creating a Power BI report to track export data for a company. I took charge of much of the process, from loading the data to deploying the report. Through identifying and implementing KPI’s, I provided end-users with actionable insights. These metrics enabled users to identify the most profitable export categories and products, pinpoint lucrative markets, and observe significant trends across different time periods.

I’ve developed and published highly interactive and efficient Power BI reports in various dataset modes while following best practices such as query folding, building efficient data models, proficient DAX usage, appropriate report structuring and visualization selection, and more. I’m knowledgeable in key DAX concepts such as row context, filter context, context transition, and the significance of CALCULATE and CALCULATETABLE to these concepts. In the service, I’ve worked with and managed deployment pipelines, dataflows, shared datasets, workspaces, apps, and have set scheduled refresh.

I’ve worked extensively with SQL Server where I have ample experience with several types of JOINs and various objects such as Stored Procedures, Views, Temp Tables, CTE’s, UDF’s, Variables, and a variety of system functions. I’ve used SQL Server Agent to automate different processes such as running SP’s and SSIS package execution. Over time I’ve learned how to better optimize queries and how to look into Execution Plans.

I’ve also had the privilege of working with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), where I have learned how to create, maintain, and troubleshoot packages with error handling. Within the Control Flow, I am proficient in utilizing all three types of containers, as well as the Data Flow Task, Execute SQL Task, and BULK Insert Task. Within the Data Flow, I’ve successfully worked with various data sources such as OLE DB, Excel, XML, and Flat Files and I’ve applied an array of transformations, including Conditional Split, Derived Column, and Multicast.

In closing, I’ve learned a great deal in my years of experience, and I’ve enjoyed my journey so far. I’m a thorough individual and I enjoy learning about the applications and services I work with, both through hands-on experience and research. Over the years, I’ve learned to balance thoroughness with resourcefulness and efficiency. I always strive to give my best to my employers while meeting the requirements of a given situation and I’ll continue to do so when I start working for your company.
