Problem Statement

In 2016, smartphone sales growth slowed down, with 1.46 billion phones sold, including 1.24 billion under Android, representing a growth of 1.6% compared to 10% in 2015 (Source ZDNet). However, in 2019, smartphone manufacturers were able to sell a total of 1.37 billion devices worldwide, marking the first annual growth in the smartphone market since 2017, according to data collected by Counterpoint. The market saw good sales in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Nevertheless, sales are still far from the record of 1.55 billion devices in 2017.
In 2020, smartphone production declined by 11% due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the market grew by 7%, with 1.35 billion smartphones shipped compared to 1.26 billion in 2020. However, annual sales are still below pre-pandemic levels due to a global shortage of components.
Samsung remains the top smartphone shipper in 2021, with a 20% market share globally and 274.5 million phones sold. Apple comes in second, with 230.1 million
phones, and Xiaomi comes third with 191.2 million units shipped. Oppo and Vivo
follow in fourth and fifth places, with 145.1 million and 129.9 million smartphones sold, respectively.
