Project Overview

Is intimate partner violence ever acceptable? If a woman tells you a husband has a right to beat his wife if she refuses to have sex with him, how do you react? Do you say that what intimate partners do with each other is up to them? And a woman who condones violence done to her has no one to blame but herself?
The United Nations defines violence against women as “One of the most widespread, persistent, and devastating human rights violations in our world today. It remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma, and shame surrounding it. Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is one of the most common public problems affecting the individual, family, and community regardless of their age, race, nationality, and socio-economic status. Apart from the violations of human rights, domestic violence (DV) damages the physical, psychological, sexual, reproductive health and social well-being of the community.
This power bi report analyzed survey of men and women in African, Asian, and South American countries, exploring the attitudes and perceived justifications given for committing acts of violence against women. This report also explores different sociodemographic groups that the respondents belong to, including Education Level, Marital status, Employment, and Age group.

Problem Statement

According to the National Family Health survey, a significant number of women justify domestic violence and even provide situations in which it is acceptable for a husband to beat his wife. This is a deeply concerning issue, as violence against women is a major public health problem and a violation of women\\\\\\\'s human rights. Globally, an estimated 736 million women (almost one in three) have experienced physical or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life, with 30% of women aged 15 and older affected by this issue. In 2017, a total of 87,000 women were intentionally killed, with over half of them (58%) killed by intimate partners or family members. This means that 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day. It is crucial to address this issue by providing education, awareness, and support to both men and women to prevent and eliminate violence against women.
