Project Overview
This project is information about all crimes that happened in the Maryland area crimes from 2016-07-01 to 2022-08-08 data, when they happened, what crime was committed, a general description about it and the number of victims. The data also focuses on the Count of crime, types of crime, crime category and crime information.
The purpose of the project is to analyze what type of crimes like, crime against person, crime against property and crime against society crimes happen in what year, month, and day of week and Hour of day. The project focuses on four KPIs- Crime |YoY%, Person |YoY%, Property | YoY%, and Society | YoY%

Problem Statement
According to a study conducted by Eddu Saver, there are three major reasons why crime is committed; unemployment, poverty and homelessness.
· The high rate of unemployment is one of the major causes of street crimes in most urban areas. With the increasing number of educated youths and low job opportunities, many are attracted to crime life as a means of income. Prostitution, drug dealing or even armed robbery the most natural crimes committed by the unemployed.
· Poverty and homelessness are another cause of street crimes. The presence of street families in cities and towns are associated with either poverty or homelessness exposing them to the harsh street life at an early age.
Executive Summary
1. The biggest problem I ran into was finding the correct dataset since most of the datasets had previously been used to create dashboards. My dataset was available in several CSV files. Then I imported the CVS file directly to my power bi desktop.
2. The excel dataset contained thousands of records from 2016-2022. Since the dataset have lots of record, it took longer to load after I loaded the dataset I cleaned out the unwanted and the null values. The record represents the data from 2016 to 2022. It includes types of crimes, category of crime, counts of crimes, crime information, and crime date.
3. Choosing the correct visual, Dax measure calculation, specifically, creating a waterfall chart was a challenge since this was my first time creating one. For this purpose, I have to create disconnected table and measures using with switch function.

Suggestion:
1. Maryland is one of the most populous and most densely populated states in the whole country. A 2016 estimate of the population places just over 6 million people in the state, which makes it the 19th most populous state in the country. Therefore, cost of living around Maryland area is very high; this is also main reason for crimes go higher. I suggest the city to create a plan to improve affordability for basic needs.
2. The data shows that more crime occurs in the month of August when most high school and college students are out of school and tend to commit crime. Therefore, I recommend encouraging college age youngsters to work and do extra-curriculum tasks to keep them busy during their summer break.
3. According to the Maryland area data analysis, the main city where the crime happen the most is in Wheaton city, as it has Person 5.5%, Property 89%, Society 5.5%, and Crime 15k. Specially property crime is very high, I suggest the city to have more Police oversight and Cameras.
4. Another analysis the data also shows detail about the YOY KPI change in year 2022, march, Person YOY 72.1%, Property YOY -10%, Society YOY -25%, and Crime YOY 13% in this analysis both property and society YOY decrease compared to previous years and Person YOY shows high compared to previous years. I recommend to the people be aware and safe this time of the year.
