Project Overview
Tuberculosis – commonly known as TB is caused by a bacterium and usually attacks the lungs, but TB bacteria can also attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. TB is a major cause of ill health and one of the leading causes of death worldwide, causing more than a million deaths each year.
The purpose of this project is to provide an insight on the incidences and mortality rates of TB in HIV infected and non-HIV infected populations for countries across the 6 World Health Organization (WHO) regions, so as inform policy and decision making towards reducing the incidences and mortality rates of TB. The data is drawn from the 2000 – 2020 WHO TB burden statistics. The visuals will show the YoY rates regionally, and individual nations as KPI’s.

Problem Statement
Globally, TB is the leading infectious disease killer. About a quarter of the world’s population is infected with the TB causing bacterium. In 2018, 1.7 billion people were infected by TB bacteria — roughly 23% of the world’s population. There were an estimated 10 million incident TB cases, and an estimated 1.5 million deaths of who 214,000 were also infected with HIV.
