Australia\\\'s Top Sports Chain

Project Overview

The Australian Top Sports Chain is a sports outlet which specializes on various sports related merchandize. The items are from the two top sports brands of Adidas and Nike in the categories of shoes, women, men, juniors, kids, accessories, hosiery, equipment, home, and groceries. The chain has stores in most of the States in Australia which are divided into suburbs and postcodes under different managers.

This analysis covers the period between January 2016 and August 2018 and traces performances by month, States, managers and categories. The KPIs I am using are MoM sales, Totals Sales, and GPM percentage change

Problem Statement

For any business to do well, sales have to be consistent month over month and year over year. For the period of this analysis however, sales in the sports chain experienced fluctuations that are causes of concern. Some managers did not show satisfactory sales as compared with others

According to the data availed for analysis, MoM sales shows a drop of 126% between September 2016 and the previous month. Similarly, the Mom sales for Tom McKenzie in the same period decreased by 150%.

Executive Summary

1. Getting a good dataset that renders itself to a good report was a challenge. I visited multiple sources before settling for this one from Kaggle

2. Creating the right measures and calculated columns was an added challenge. I researched various sites in order to develop the necessary measures to apply in my report. I watched multiple videos too in order to familiarize myself with the best ways of producing the necessary calculations for my report

3. Understanding the Australian regional organization was also important in making a better interpretation of the data. Some of the States in Australia have big urban centers that could explain why the sales were higher than in other States.
