Project Overview
Conflict can be defined as a clash or disagreement often violent between opposing groups or individuals. It can also be said to be an incompatibility, as of two things that cannot be simultaneously fulfilled. Conflict arises from differences in interest, ideas, ideologies, orientations, beliefs perceptions and tendencies. The Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project cover all African countries from 1997 to the present and is designed for disaggregated conflict analysis and crisis mapping. The dataset codes the dates and locations of all reported political violence and protest events in Africa. Political violence and protest includes events that occur within civil wars, periods of instability, public protest and regime breakdown

Problem Statement
In 2019 the African Union proposed a “Silencing the Guns” initiative that is aimed at “ending all wars, civil conflicts, gender-based violence, violent conflicts and preventing genocide in the continent by 2020”. This is initiative was launched due to historical high in state-based conflicts. In 2019, 25 state based conflicts were recorded, 4 more than in 2018. This is exasperated further with Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Somalia, and Burundi all seeing external involvement in their domestic conflicts.
This report analyzes the historical trend of these conflicts and how African leaders can work towards a peaceful end to these conflicts.

Troubles that occurred during the Project
1 The main challenge was to apply create Dax Formulae for the key performance indicators. I researched a lot on google and Colaberry network to come up with correct solution
2 I had to invest good amount of time in finding out correct map and to apply color saturation on it. with shape map it comes by default but I wanted to use filled map with regions and countries.
3 Event date column datatype was a text I had a problem creating a calendar table in the Power BI. After seeing a record 25 state Based conflicts, with a record of 13 being fought over territories, the African Union have launched the “Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2020” aims to achieve a conflict-free Africa, prevent genocide, make peace a reality for all and rid the continent of wars, violent conflicts, human rights violations, and humanitarian disasters. The African Union should mobilize more support for the leaders of those countries as well have strict conditions if those countries fail to live up to expectations.
Provide greater access and roles to woman. One of the key partners in slowing the rise of conflict is woman due to the roles they play. The amount of mediation women foreign minister are able to provide between family, villages and countries should be highlighted greatly, and more woman should be at negotiation tables. Although the role of woman in foreign affairs has been rising, with a 13.6% rise in 2019, it is low compared to a rise of 30% more women ministers of defense and 52.9% more women ministers of finances.
Have more cooperation and sharing of data between the UN, AU, and NGO’s. The UN has a comparative advantage than the AU’s and NGO’s due to the vast resources it’s able to tap into. As such it should partner more with the AU on the ground and have synergy between the two on the national level and not just locally.
