NYC TRAFFIC ACCIDENT January,2020-August,2020

Project Overview

The Motor Vehicle Collisions data tables contain information from all police reported motor vehicle collisions in NYC according to data from New York City Police Department.
Provide a high-level approach to monitor NYC vehicle accident’s reports by multiple categories to increase police activity in certain areas and neighborhood in order to prevent human casualties as much as possible.
Each fatal accident should be represented on the NYC geographical map as a yellow circle dot, by its longitude and latitude number. By slicing the data according to the combination of chosen year, including all boroughs as an option, the fatal accidents can be visually inspected on NYC map in each borough.
Discover the year over year number of accidents with injured and killed people
Identify month, day of week or hour which vehicles accidents are more likely to happen,
Provide vehicle accidents information about specific boroughs and vehicle type.

Problem Statement

.At least 200 people have died in traffic crashes on New York City streets to date in 2020, with 70 days remaining in the year. This is shaping up to be the deadliest year for traffic violence during Mayor de Blasio’s tenure. If the rate of death on our streets continues unchanged through the remainder of the year, we will see 243 total deaths in 2020.
Up to this date last year, 188 New Yorkers were killed in crashes, while 175were killed during the same period in 2018 and 183 killed during the same period in 2017— the lowest total during the Vision Zero era.

Next Steps

Traffic Management is an imperfect science. One delay here, or a breakdown there can result in queues of cars for seemingly miles, often in many different directions. Solving the issue isn\'t just a matter of increasing the number of lanes or roads, as the phenomena of \"induced demand\" actually shows such solutions increase traffic, rather than making for better traffic flows.

In New York City, a panel of experts had been tasked with reviewing the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, an initiative spearheaded by Mayor Bill de Blasio. The panel has returned with its recommendations, one of which was the reduction of the BQE from six lanes to four. It is suggested that such a measure would, \"reduce traffic volume by 15 percent and create shoulders to handle disabled vehicles.\"

The change would also be combined with congestion-pricing for New York City, which is largely expected to be introduced in 2021.
